One of the most fulfilling aspects of my career, including over 25 years working with the UK public sector and higher education in particular, has been helping to create positive, lasting change for individuals, teams and organisations. Earlier in my career, I founded and led a successful business providing online payment systems to universities across the UK. That experience gave me a deep understanding of complex organisations, the pressures leaders work within and the challenge of turning good ideas into improvements that work in practice. Over time, my attention increasingly turned to the people side of organisational performance. I became particularly interested in strengths-based practice and its potential to help people understand how they work best, support managers to lead more effectively and strengthen how teams work together. I also became increasingly aware of a persistent challenge. Development can create valuable insight and strong intentions, but these do not always survive the pressures of everyday work. When time is limited, change is constant, and demands compete, conversations can become reactive, collaboration can weaken, and teams can fall back into familiar patterns. I founded Strengthify to help close that gap. Today, we work primarily with UK public sector organisations, supporting leaders responsible for departments, directorates, services and multiple teams. We help strengthen how managers lead, how teams collaborate and how people coordinate their work - particularly through pressure, change, restructure, service improvement and cross-team complexity. Our approach combines the Strengthify Profile, practical development for managers and teams, and Strengthify Engage - the shared digital layer that keeps strengths, working styles and leadership habits visible and usable over time. For me, the value of strengths-based practice is not simply that people gain greater self-awareness. It is what that understanding enables them to do differently: prepare for a better conversation, recognise how someone else works, reduce avoidable friction, make more thoughtful decisions and help teams work together more effectively. Our aim is to make strengths-based practice practical, credible and evidence-informed, so that leadership and teamwork hold up not only during development, but in the reality of everyday work.
